Welcome to SaveOurPlant.com, a site dedicated to providing information and discussion on why General Motors should select their facility in Spring Hill, Tennessee for the production of a new vehicle.

The report listed below is a brief overview of the positive attributes that underscore why General Motors should keep the Spring Hill plant functioning in the New General Motors reorganization.

First and foremost, the Spring Hill production facility possesses the manufacturing processes and team member culture that GM is trying to install in every facility that they will continue operating under their new viability plan.

GM has renovated the Spring Hill plant over the last 18 months, spending over a billion dollars to install the latest state of the art flexible technology. This new technology includes the Bill of Process 4.0, giving Spring Hill the capability to build up to 3 different architectures and 6 different products all on the same line. This system is also capable of building any vehicle architecture produced. Due to the flexibility of the Spring Hill plant, retooling for the production of another car (from the currently produced Chevrolet Traverse) would be minimal.

The Spring Hill plant also has constructed a new super flexible paint shop that includes the latest environmental enhancements. This system is capable of processing any variety of product configurations that are required and is tooled up to meet the demands of the tremendously flexible body shop.

The flexibility to build any product that the market place demands will be key to the future of General Motors.

The President’s Automotive Task Force has demanded that GM streamline their number of plants and keep those facilities that are the most flexible and profitable. The Spring Hill facility meets these requirements.

• Spring Hill is one of the 3 newest GM Vehicle Assembly Factories in the United States

Location, Location, Location

June 11th, 2009 2 comments

Spring Hill is conveniently located off of Interstate 65 and is centrally located within one day’s drive to 75% of the U.S. population.

There are four other auto plants in the region:  Nissan in Smyrna, Volkwagon in Chattanooga, Corvette in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Mercedes-Benz in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The growing auto industry lead to the relocation of Nissan’s North American headquarters 20 miles north of Spring Hill.
